10 Minutes Can Change Your Day

Do you keep pressing snooze on your morning alarm over and over again just to stay in bed until the last possible minute? Do you then have to rush around to get out of the house on time?

Rushing around in the morning causes stress and tension in our bodies that could set the tone for the rest of the day. Isn’t it better to start the day off in a calm manner? An additional 10 minutes in the morning can change your mindset to one that will more likely cause you to have a calm and productive day.

Here’s the 10 minute routine:

Minute 1 – drink a glass of water. Our bodies get dehydrated during the night so we need to replenish the fluids. Drinking water first thing in the morning will also help reduce morning fog, and start the day off with a more focused mind. So, start keeping a full glass of water at bedside before going to sleep.

Minutes 2 and 3 – spend 2 minutes breathing. Take 6-10 long slow breaths by inhaling to the slow count of 5 and exhaling to the slow count of 8. Try to inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Counting your breath will force you to focus your mind, helping you to start your day calmly.

Minutes 4 to 7 – do gentle stretching. Gentle stretching gets your blood flowing, unwinds any tight muscles and limbers you up for the day ahead. Doing this daily will help in the long term with better circulation and flexibility.

Minute 8 – practice gratitude. Take a minute to focus in on what you’re grateful for in your life. This will start your day off in a positive light and help you to manage the difficult moments which may arise.

Minute 9 – visualize a successful day. Think about what you have planned for the day and visualize successful outcomes.

Spending 10 minutes doing the above in the morning will help you focus on yourself in a healthy and positive way.

Have a great day!
